Oil
Creek is one of the better known streams in Venango County. It enters the
Allegheny River at the City of Oil City at Justus Park. The stream runs
parallel to route 8 from its confluence with the Allegheny River to entrance of
Oil Creek State Park at the village of Rynd Farm. The creek runs through the
center of park from Drake Well to Rynd Farm the southern entrance of the State
Park on route 8. There is good access to the stream from Petroleum Center road
which connects Rynd Farm to Village Petroleum Center. From Petroleum center
north to Drake Well State Park the creek is accessible by way of the Oil Creek
State park bike trail. The Oil Creek State park bike trail begins at Petroleum
Center and ends at Drake Well State Park. The Park Office is located at
Petroleum Center
Oil Creek is best known for fly fishing in May and June. During these two months there are usually good hatches of May flies and Caddis flies.
There is Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures only section begins at the rail road trestle at Columbia Farm and ends at the bridge at Petroleum. This is open to fishing year around, check the fishing regulation guide which comes with your guide. -There is a fly shop at Petroleum Center (Oil Creek Outfitters677-4684).
The bike trail is a nice level grade running along the creek for 9.6 miles. There are picnic tables along the way and restrooms at Miller Farm at Wolf Kill Run Shelters. Well known fishing stops along the trail The Caldwell Farm mile marker 1+, Pioneer Flats mile marker 2, Miller Farm mile marker 4, Miller Run Hole Mile Marker 5, Night Cap mile marker 6+ and Drake Well Park.
